Making the East
an everlasting place
to grow.

We are a key player in the production of electricity using renewable sources for our country’s grid. Our strategy is to sustainably and efficiently transform available energy sources, such as photovoltaic or biomass, to reach our ambition of a 100% renewables production, reducing our emissions and the country’s reliance on fossil fuels.

For a Sustainable Future

Helios Beau Champ (49% Alteo-owned company) is a major component of Alteo’s sustainability strategy. It operates a 9MW photovoltaic farm since 2018 and exports its average annual production of 16 GWh to the national grid. This power plant is equipped with photovoltaic inverters that automatically detect problems, and the plant’s control centre transmits energy production forecasts to the Central Electricity Board every 30 minutes.
We pioneered cogeneration in Mauritius in 1986 and we are continuing on this trend. Our 41MW biomass/coal power plant supplies steam and electricity to our milling operations and the national grid, exporting an annual average of 170 GWh of electricity to the Central Electricity Board. Over half of our production is derived from renewable sources like bagasse and cane trash. Our objective is to develop a more efficient power plant to replace our existing facility, thus increasing our contribution to the national goal of supplying 40% of the local electricity needs from renewable sources by 2030.
